I know Roger who wrote this song Roger Waters studied psychology a long time during his time in the band, and one thing I also know is he studied warfare and why his Dad left him and died in the military service, and also he studied Sigmund Freud and one of Sigmund Freud's principals in life was that your Mother is the cause of all of your problems. Your attachment to your Mother, which isn't true. It only was for Freud who I believe was molested by his Mother. But normally your Mother can be your safety and your teacher and your happiness. But of course we have to one day say goodbye to our Mother to find a lover and wife. So this song to me is about Roger's learning about Freud not about his life. Because I believe Roger would have had some kind of magical Mother to have raised a rock star. But also that in a lot of ways she would have struggled not having a husband back from the war to raise her children, so to Roger she would have looked like struggling and stupid at times. Like Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb? no? you don't know do you, you have no opinions,, just a stupid woman? Mother do you think they'll like this song? All his questions to his Mother go unanswered and he sits staring in his armchair.. blaming his Mother... but family is never to blame.. EVER!! To blame for their children.. it is always some outside of the nucleus force. Imposing.. and maybe it's a natural force like wind or rain but it's not your parents. Always honour your parents.
