Want to build an Aquarium today but don't have any money or room..
Don't know what else to do, that's what I want to do.
I want a multi-storey cabinet of glass and areas for turtles, lizards and fish and shrimp and some snails.
My little glass aquarium outside I built already has some spiders in it, that's cool... It's a bit small, maybe for one or two little lizards? My old fish tank I don't use anymore since getting the bigger one.
If I get other animals or fish, they can eat each other ok, that's fine.. if they do... but I will make it impossible to eat them all unless they just are stupid ones... and keep going into the other area, I'll make a fish one with a grill so only little ones can get out and get eaten by the turtles.. and I will have a lizard part with a tube they can run in and out but turtles can't.. and another pond for shrimp and snails..
So they get some excitement but also some places to hide from each other.
Lizards get angry and fight if too hot, so I won't have a lamp or light... lizards are a lot like human temperament, but are toughened by the harsh environment, but prefer swimming and playing on grass in the shade.
When have you never seen a happier goanna than one under a tree in the shade asleep.
They hide under logs to not be disturbed and also to attract little fleas and lice and tiny mites to eat, they don't like bigger bugs as much mainly the little ones that don't bite or sting. But if left at peace they will prefer open grassy areas under shady trees. And just lick at the little flying insects and occasionally eat a frog or a mouse.
Turtles eat anything in the water, not on land. They like anywhere to sit, in the cold or hot, inside their shell, they come out to move and to swim.
Shrimp only eat water entities like tiny organisms smaller than fleas. They just filter them out drinking as they breathe. They like still water ponds the best and just float around like dead, or in a river they will go with the currents and try and slip off into eddies where the water swirls around into the little bays and just float down at the bottom, drinking the water filtering food.
Snails well they slide around and never stop moving, unless curled inside. They suck up moisture and absorb chemicals and ooze out toxins, they will try and absorb anything they touch. In a fish tank depending on the species of snail they might keep multiplying filling up your tank, but if you get a certain fresh water species that only breeds in large ponds, then they won't reproduce very much at all, maybe just a few every year. It has something to do with dispelling heat. A snail on heat too long without a big area to live will overheat and cook the eggs. Bigger the area more likely to reproduce. The hotter the species less likely.. like tropical snails in a little pond not much at all.. but cool garden snails in a little area will just keep spitting them out till the tank is full.
There best ones that go with tropical fish are tropical snails they won't hurt anyone, but if you put aggressive snails from south of the equator in cool areas they will try and kill the fish by breeding up then emitting toxins from eating their own shit. Snails can eat poo but the best way to control poo is use it to grow plants, plants in your tank will eat the poo and grow better than getting snails.. so leave the snails out of your tank unless really compatible species and just have one or two in a small tank.
Like have some on the bottom sand.. any sand. Then a layer of mulch like compost really broken down, can get it at Bunnings like fertiliser, then have a layer of coarse gravel just thin layers a few centimetres to hold it all down firm, then on top you have fine gravel and flat stones like pebbles - and you plant your plants into this to the bottom of your tank where the roots can slide along the glass as they grow.
You can if you have extra money get specialised nutrient base, but really its refined compost, can use compost from garden just make sure it is well broken down, no big bits of crap, but as the fish grow they will nibble at the bits of compost that rises up too, and it is good for plants as they recognise the poo from the composted material and absorb it more easily. Foreign matter is less likely to be absorbed by plants straight away.. like adding nutrients on top and fish might get sick from it.
It is like bedding I guess, you don't want your plant root too hot or cold, dress it with some mattress on bottom then a sheet and then your plants go in there and on top some heavy blanket then a nice doona.
Ok, so its not perfect use your imagination, you don't eat your sheets I know.. but some are pillow biters.
So maybe you sleep on a nice soft bed cover. And that feeds your goodness.
You can plant creepers on pieces of wood or sticks or logs in there, or plant in a fancy plant pot (non toxic in water, I think ceramic ok, or anything based on natural materials, probably not metals or plastics), same idea, you want a good base for plants to grow on.
Fish feel like they are the water, they basically are just sentient, they just see, that's about it, that's their awareness, so always make sure there's plenty of space for them to shoot around and swim in open water, don't put too many plants together, leave some hiding spaces, but also have some room to swim around, they don't mind being seen, they are looking at you with interest. Just be sure not to bang on the glass too much, just a gentle tap and say hello a little bit, they might die of shock otherwise.
If you have a 3D tank so you can see in all sides, leave in the middle a nice home to hide for them, so they can go in and sleep.
You can make a functional hydroponically sustainable fish tank and grow vegetables at the top in trays, and the fish poo will feed the fruits. Consult a specialist about the right tank and fish.
Fish poo is just all the body that the fish are killing off to grow, so all the dead cells, the actual food they eat gets absorbed into their bodies, poo is just basically blood, so if you eat fish, you shouldn't mind eating fruit grown from poo, it just fish body. Plants will absorb the poo, and divide it up into mRNA and then kill anything other than the acids and then create DNA and from there the DNA attracts other nutrients from the water and that creates the proteins which creates food, no poo goes into the actual fruit. The poo goes into the plant and the plant proteins and other minerals grow the fruit. It's a safety net from contamination of poo and fruit, there is a dividing line that isn't crossed as mRNA only designs the blueprint which is grown from the poo, and then the blue print is copied from the plant itself and the plant then creates the DNA and reproduces cells of fruit. It is why the fruit can carry pure seeds that the plants are then grown from like babies.
Human beings over-eat so often the blood leaving the body and old cells are too much and the food gets not properly absorbed or flushed by too much drink and so we poo a lot more than fish, like if we were fish we might do a tiny squirt like a small cherry, but most of us do like two logs.
