What I remember of Man Martigaan.

Well, he was a knight before King Arthur, inspired the knighthood in the beginning when Kings first were crowned, he was kind of thought of as Man.. like man was word for ruler... so he was the Man is where that expression comes from.

Martigaan, if you break it down means Marti and Gaan.. like Marti is derived from Martyr.. and Gaan is like the Gaan was a long province of Europe that ran from Egypt to the northern Scandinavian mountains.. and that sea in-between was mostly just river systems...

So the Martigaan was the hero of the whole of Europe and into the snowy mountains north.. from the desert south.

So a Man Martigaan was equivalent to the Sheik.
