Giving kids in Indonesia free good food at school??? Why worry? The ABC NEWS
Sorry I thought it said USA, it was Indonesia....
Kids are at school like how many hours?
Teach families to make a good breakfast and not to scold kids for being late, kids are all different some are prompt and on time, some kids are slower getting places, so if a child is a bit late, just say it's ok. So long as the work is all done on time.
BUT, teach families to make a good morning breakfast, and to make a good dinner at home.. and just have some snacks at lunchtime. Like fruit, or bring a frozen thing in to have at lunch, even you could have a little roster and have some party pies or sausage rolls, or those Asian dumplings steaming in a pot and each child gets a few.
Why make it all so complex?
========================================
For Indonesia.
Poverty doesn't have to mean starvation.. or poor nutrition.
Rice isn't very nutritious and very hard to grow, but it is good for Asian diets who work hard.
But instead, you could have some animals like a cow, and roast one on an open fire like a spit, and have it near the school. And cook it in the morning, and every child gets some freshly cooked food each day from the spit roast and potato in a foil jacket and some butter, which is all easy to make. That along with some boiled greens, do not give salad in those areas where it is excessively hot, just steamed greens, and you got a great meal, but cook it freshly before lunch each day.. and it can be the opposite that can be the main meal, and in the morning just some toasted bread and jam, and of a night some oatmeal.
It is the killing process and storing chicken legs and meats and salad which goes off very quickly., so cook a whole cow, and feed all the kids near the school, just bring it over in a big pot and cut all the meat off freshly, and bring the potato's, you can try other vegetables like corn or sweet potato, and serve always freshly cooked within the hour.
If a small school, just cook a cows leg or half a sheep, or if vegetarian, you can just make a big pot of vegetable soup or broth with some fresh greens in it, and lime juice preserves.
And also you could make some big baked breads like a pizza and have some cheese on it with some onion and tomato. Get a good clay pizza oven and fire it up in the morning with wood. Make wood fire pizza.
It's preparing it hours long in the heat it will go off or storing it, do it fresh each day and get the kids in to help and teach home skills like cooking, washing up dishes and hygiene.
Even a baked flat bread kebab with tomato onion and finely cut shredded cabbage could work with some lime juice in it and fresh roasted meat, chicken, lamb, or beef.
Avoid lettuce and garlic sauce.
